People may be surprised to know that makeup, despite all of its complexities, isnt something that was invented in recent times. In fact there is a long history of makeup that has led it to the point where it is today. Pharaohs and great queens of Egypt wore makeup thousands of years ago and while it wasnt composed of the same materials, they still used it in similar ways as people do today.

Museums will even show how makeup has been around for an incredibly long time. The ancient drawings and statues of Egyptians show just about every person with line around their eyes. Thats right; they had eyeliner even back then. The history of makeup is found in the Bible too with famous women from Biblical history applying makeup and performing beauty treatments as part of their daily routine. Actors have been using makeup for a long time as well, especially in the days where women were not a part of the theater and men played both genders.

Of course in the past people didnt know about hazardous materials and had a tendency of using anything that would produce a color for makeup. These often led to poisonous makeup and people would become sick and even die from wearing it. As time continued people found better things to make their beauty supplies out of and stopped using things like mercury and lead.

When the 1800s came around, the history of makeup reached a new era, as it had become something that was associated with negative attributes in society as opposed to its symbol for higher status in the past. In England, many prostitutes were the ones that wore makeup and royalty frowned upon it. Some, like Queen Victoria, even banned its use. Other historical figures also looked down upon makeup, including Adolf Hitler who felt that makeup was beneath women of the Aryan race.

That didnt stop makeup from becoming popular for all women to use. A big turnaround for the history of makeup was the time period where women began to take pride in their sexuality and used makeup as a way to help express themselves. That was the start of makeups widespread use in the world today.

Makeup still had its negative side effects and continues to even today. Controversy of animal testing rages on as people deem it inappropriate to test products on animals. However, makeup companies use animals because their products had led to serious problems such as blindness and skin deformations. These potential side effects of makeup used with improper materials caused the government to create regulations that makeup-producing companies need to follow. Some of these regulations also help to control the use of animals for product testing although it hasnt been banned yet.

Women and men alike both use mineral makeup now on a regular basis. There are simple creams and powders that are used for hiding blemishes. There are extravagant colors that are used to make a person stand out and feel good about themselves. One thing is for sure; makeup has come a long way.

Some people are under the mistaken assumption that the only time to use sunscreen is on especially hot and sunny days. The truth is that anytime that were out in the sun, the suns rays are having a negative impact on our skin. There is a constant barrage of ultraviolet light that can cause our skin to age before its time, and it can lead to more serious skin problems in the long term. Even on days when its not all that hot outside, it is a good idea to use sunscreen.

With that said, sunscreen is still most needed when a person is spending a day out in the sun, especially if theyre trying to tan. This is when there is the biggest risk of sunburn, which is a direct result of intense sun exposure. Its important to understand how to choose the right sunscreen for the job. SPF, or sun protection factor, is the rating system that is used to determine the strength of a sunscreen. Usually, a minimum sun protection factor of 15 is recommended for tanning or prolonged sun exposure. However, much more powerful levels of protection are available — up to a 60 SPF rating or more.

There is another factor to consider, as well. There are multiple types of ultraviolet light rays that are harmful to the skin — UVA and UVB. Many sunscreens are designed to effectively block only one UVB rays, while UVA are actually the more dangerous type. It is a good idea to look for a sunscreen that is designed to block both types of rays. Sunscreens that contain the ingredients zinc oxide, ecamsule, or avobenzone are the best choices for full-spectrum protection.

When it comes to just routine daily sun exposure, a full application of sunscreen isnt really necessary. If youre just eating lunch outdoors or walking for a little while outside, then you should be okay just using other skin-care products that contain minor sunscreens. For example, there are many facial moisturizers that include enough sunscreen to protect your skin from the suns rays on a day-to-day basis.

One of the negative effects associated with sun exposure to the skin is wrinkling. The sun is one of the primary factors when it comes to skin starting to look aged before its time. For people who are concerned about aging and wrinkled skin, there are special sunscreen treatments that are design both to reduce and prevent wrinkles. Many of these have high SPF ratings for maximum protection from the suns light.

Aside from wrinkles, the other major impact of the sun on human skin is skin cancer. Heavy exposure to the sun without the proper protection can lead to a person developing deadly skin cancers. This is one reason why its especially important to get sunscreen that protects against UVA rays. Despite the fact that UVA doesnt cause any burning sensation or redness, it is actually the primary cause of skin cancer. So when youre looking to buy sunscreen, make sure that you make an educated choice that will truly protect you from skin problems.

When it comes to wart removal, many people take the decision to get rid of their warts themselves, which is usually done at home. While a large number of individuals would rather remove their own warts in their own home, not everyone is pleased with the idea. It is important that you examine all of your choices when dealing with wart removal, including the advantages and disadvantages of each. If you are leaning more towards having your warts removed by a professional, you are urged to look at the pros and cons of doing so.

Perhaps, the greatest benefit of having your warts professionally removed, usually at a doctor’s office, is the fact that it is being done professionally. Almost all doctors, including dermatologists and primary care physicians, have experience with wart removal. This means that you do not, in most cases, have to concern yourself with complications arising; complications which could arise if you choose to remove your own warts at home.

In addition to having your warts professionally removed, you will also find that you are given professional after-care and specialist advice. After having a wart removed, it is vital that you take good care of your skin until it is totally healed. This could include keeping it covered up or regularly applying antibiotic cream. When you go to your primary care physician or a dermatologist, you should be given a detailed list of instructions. In fact, your doctor or dermatologist may even provide free applications, such as special skincare cream or band-aid.

When thinking about resolving any health issue, including warts, people are always advised to see a doctor. That is why many individuals mistakenly think that there are no disadvantages to having their warts removed by a professional. The reality is that there are a few disadvantages, despite the many advantages. Unfortunately, these disadvantages may prevent you from seeking professional help, when it comes to having one or more of your warts taken away.

One of the few disadvantages of specialist wart removal is the cost of doing so. The cost is usually higher with a professional, compared to a normal primary care physician. Despite the high cost of having a wart removed in the doctor’s surgery, you may still want to undergo a professional removal. If you have health insurance, you are advised to check your policy. A large number of health insurance plans in the United States cover warts that have to be professionally removed. If you do not have health insurance, you are urged to speak to your doctor. A lot of primary care physicians and dermatologists will allow you to establish a payment plan, thus making wart professional removal achievable.

Another disadvantage to having your wart removed professionally is one that really shouldn’t even be a problem, but it is for some. A larger number of individuals, maybe you too, are worried about the appearance of their warts, despite the fact that warts are harmless. Many people do not want others to know that they have them. That is why a lot of people make the decision to carry out their own wart removal procedures. Naturally, it is up to you, but it is important to remember that doctors are used to seeing warts. You should not be afraid of showing your physician your warts. Not only can they remove them for you professionally, but they can also tell you that warts are common and nothing to be ashamed of.

When making up your mind whether or not professional wart removal is in your best interest, you are urged to bear the afore-mentioned advantages and disadvantages in mind. If you do not want to visit your local doctor or dermatologist, do not worry, you still have a number of different options. However, if professional wart removal is not for you, perhaps you ought to begin by examining your other options.

Melasma skin problems frequently show up when a woman is pregnant. Dermal Melasma can affect anyone, men and women. It is an area of discoloration or rash, dark brown to deep grey in color. Melasma mainly is found on cheek and upper lip areas and forehead. Neck, shoulder and upper arms occasionally are touched by Melasma.

A small percentage of men do get Melasma. Typically Melasma emerges on women between 30 and 40. Naturally dark skinned or frequent tanners experience it more often than people with light complexions. Higher levels of Melanin found in dark skin could increase chance of developing Melasma.

With Melasma pregnancy is a common trigger. Other triggers may be hormonal contraceptive, medications such at tetracycline and anti-malarial drugs. It can be a phototoxic reaction to soaps, toiletries and cosmetics. Sun exposure can also cause overproduction of melanin.

Treatments for Melasma are abundant. Stop using any hormonal contraception may work as a Melasma cure. A skin remove Treatment for Melasma may involve Salicylic acid creams or tropical Retinoids such as Tretinoin to take skin off. Recent trends in the beauty industry seem to be pointing us towards either mineral or organic makeup. Therefore, it is not surprising to see that in at least one page of every beauty and skin care magazine, there is a mention of either of these two. As a woman, taking care of your skin is crucial to making you look far younger than your years. In fact, thanks to technology and new developments like botox, cosmetic surgery, women are able to look at least ten years younger than their age.

But if you do not want to go through all that stress, then there are ways you can take care of your skin to keep it looking beautiful, supple and glowing. Because the skin is sensitive, it is important to know what the effect of different chemicals will be on the skin. Since make-ups are a necessary tool kit required for women to look their best, knowing the difference between what works for you and what doesnt will go a long way in protecting your skin and not leaving it exposed to chemicals you might be allergic to.

Mineral make-ups are the rave now – isnt there always something people rave about! Recently discovered, it is used as foundation, eye shadow and blush formulations. Mineral make-ups unlike the common or regular ones, boasts of higher quality ingredients made from minerals. Besides this, the make-up has a way of enhancing the necessary strong points on your face. Thus, the reason women seem to abandon regular make-ups for it. Mineral make-ups also contain more ingredients such as vitamins A and E, and other natural ingredients which is why many make-up artists, and women spend more money on it than on any other product. Some users even swear by the mineral make-ups ability to even out your skin tone. Either way, its one of the current favourites.

The term Organic make-ups and natural make-up are often used interchangeably. To clearly differentiate between them, natural make-ups are supposedly manufactured from pure and undiluted plant derivatives and seem to literally contain no additives, preservatives or chemicals. On the other hand, most organic make-up products boast of being manufactured organically from plants of course and other organic sources. These make-up products are manufactured from ingredients that do not have any synthetic relation or affiliation with any genetically modified organisms. This is because under the law, organic products are not meant to contain any form of synthetic products.

Organic make-ups are often preferred by health conscious people because of their ingredients as most in organic or mineral makeup are deemed to contain harmful chemicals such as mercury, alcohol, DEA, nitrosamines, alcohol, isopropyl and polyethylene glycol. These chemicals are harmful because when absorbed by the skin, they cannot be gotten rid of by the body. Thus, increasing the level of toxins in the body, causing irreparable damage and harm to the body.

Whatever your choice is, the best thing is to find out what works for you. Go through a list of all the ingredients on the label of the make-up products you want to buy. Then, make comparisons and decide based on what you know about the chemicals.

INTRODUCTION: Gallstones are pieces of hard solid material located in the gallbladder and may be as little as a grain of sand or as big as a golf ball, depending on how long they have been forming. They frequently have no symptoms and are often uncovered by a routine x-ray, surgery, or autopsy.

Gallstones also may move about within bile, for example, from the gallbladder into the cystic or common duct. They are a common health problem worldwide and occur more frequently in women than men becoming more common with age in both sexes. More than 20 million Americans have them and approximately one million new cases are diagnosed each year.

SYMPTOMS: Gallstones may feel like chest pain caused by a heart attack and other serious problems. Symptoms usually start after a large stone blocks the cystic duct or the common bile duct and usually do not return after the gallbladder has been removed. About 80% of people do not have any symptoms for many years, if ever, particularly if the stones remain in the gallbladder.

If you have symptoms, you most likely will have some pain in the pit of your stomach or in the upper right part of your belly. Approximately 15% of people who have symptoms also have stones in the common bile duct.

Exactly how diet can produces gallstone formation is not known, but diets which are high in cholesterol and fat, and low in fiber can increase the chance of developing Them.

There are two basic types of gallstones. Pigmented (bilirubin) kinds are found most often in Persons with severe liver disease and persons with some blood disorders such as sickle cell anemia.

Cholesterol types are found most frequently in: Females over 20, especially pregnant women, and males over 60 years old, Persons on “crash diets” who lose a lot of weight rapidly, Patients who use certain drugs including birth control pills and cholesterol reducing agents, Native-Americans and Mexican-Americans.

TREATMENTS: Gallstones that do not create symptoms do not require treatment, However if they block a duct, they do. Surgery to remove the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) is the treatment of choice for stones that create moderate to severe pain or other signs. However, only 1 of 5 persons can have this treatment. Persons who have it often produce new stones after a few years. Half of these require treatment, with a cost to society of several billion dollars yearly.

Many new approaches to treatment have been tested over the past several years, however surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) is still the most widely used therapy. Non-surgical treatment includes pain medicines, antibiotics to fight infection, and a low-fat diet (when food can be tolerated).

A licensed doctor should be consulted for diagnosis and treatment of any and all medical conditions.

CONCLUSION: Gallstones usually form in the gallbladder; but, they also may form anywhere there is bile: in the intrahepatic, hepatic, common bile, and cystic ducts. They form when cholesterol and other materials found in bile create stones.

They can develop in many persons without causing signs and do not cause belching and bloating. They usually are found in adults between the ages of 20 to 50, and are more common in women in this age group.

It is commonly known that sunburn is really bad for your skin, so doesn’t it make sense that you should use a moisturizer with sunscreen?

But the answer may not be quite what you thought it might be.

Theres no doubt that sunburn is really bad for our skin, in fact sunburn is probably one of the single worst things you can do to your skin.

And if you want to make sure you’re going to have older looking skin with sagging and wrinkles, dryness and lines, just start getting sunburned at an early age, and do it regularly.

Not to mention skin cancer.

So doesn’t it make complete sense to use a moisturizer with an spf of 15 or even 30?

Well no, not necessarily, though that doesn’t mean it’s fine to get sunburned.

So what reason is there for avoiding moisturizers with a high spf? The reason is that there is some evidence that daily use of sunscreens can be dangerous for your health, and there is even some suggestion that it can cause cancer.

Now it certainly isn’t proven yet, but is suspected by many scientists. If, say, you use a sunscreen normally around 5 or 6 times a year then the risk is lower, but if you use a moisturizer then the chances are that you use it every day, so the risk is higher as you are using a sunscreen daily, and many days when you don’t need it.

There are different types of sunscreen. Particularly 2 different types, those that work in the skin once they have been absorbed into the skin, and those that stay on the surface of the skin and dont soak in, like zinc or titanium sunblocks.

If the sunscreen soaks in then a portion of them will get into your bloodstream. Possibly dangerous. And most skincare products with spf factors use the type that soaks in because it looks and feels better.

And of course all spf factor is produced by using synthetic chemicals, and you don’t want to be getting chemicals into your bloodstream.

And there’s more. If you block the sun to your face every day it’s possible that you could start to suffer from vitamin D deficiency. There are studies that show that anything up to 60% of Americans suffer from a deficiency of vitamin D. (Though not all caused by sunscreen use by any means).

So what should you do?

Use the highest quality moisturizer possible, without sunscreen in it. The manufacturer of the worlds very best moisturizers and skin care products specifically doesn’t add a sunscreen to their products for all the reasons I’ve mentioned.

And use a sunscreen with either zinc or titanium block only on days when you really think you are at risk of sunburn. And on most days you really wont need sunscreen anyway, so enjoy your extra supplies of vitamin D.

INTRODUCTION: Autism (ASD) is a developmental disorder of the brain that initially shows signs during infancy or childhood and continues without stopping or relapse. It is very heritable, but the genetics are complex and it is not known exactly which genes produces it. The disorder is characterized by a group of symptoms rather than a single symptom and the needs of persons who have it vary greatly. It is recognized by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal/nonverbal communication, and unusual, repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests.

SYMPTOMS: Symptoms often include problems with using and understanding language; difficulty relating to people, objects, and events; unusual play with toys and other objects; difficulty with changes in routine or familiar surroundings, and repetitive body movements or behavior patterns. They can range from mild to very severe. Parents often become aware of autistic symptoms in their child around the time of a routine vaccination.

Parental concern about vaccines has led to a decreasing rate of childhood immunizations and an increasing likelihood of measles outbreaks; However there is overwhelming scientific evidence showing no causal association between the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine and autism, and there is no scientific evidence that the vaccine preservative thiomersal helps or causes the behavior.

The increasing popularity of drug treatment options and the expansion of benefits has given health providers incentives to diagnose ASD, resulting in some over diagnosis of children with uncertain symptoms. A person with ASD may respond atypically to medications and the medications can have adverse side effects. There is no known medication that relieves autism’s core symptoms of social and communication impairments.

RESEARCH: Researchers have located a number of brain abnormalities in people with autism; however, the reasons for these abnormalities is not known nor is the influence that they may have on behavior. Research has shown that parents are usually correct about noticing developmental problems, although they may not realize the exact nature or degree of the problem.

Environmental factors that have been said to contribute to or worsen the condition, or may be important in future research, include certain foods, infectious disease, heavy metals, solvents, diesel exhaust, PCBs, phthalates and phenols found in plastic products, pesticides, brominated flame retardants, alcohol, smoking, illegal drugs, and vaccines.

TREATMENT: Treatments include behavior and communication therapies, medicines to control symptoms and is most successful when geared toward the child’s particular needs. The main goals are to lessen associated deficits and family distress, and to increase quality of life and functional independence. Over the years, families have tried various types of traditional and non-traditional means to reduce autistic behaviors and to increase normal behaviors. The two which have received the most empirical support are Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA behavior modification) and the use of vitamin B6 with magnesium supplements.

For great numbers of children, symptoms improve with therapy and with age. Parents should be ready to adjust treatment for their child when needed. The ideal treatment plan coordinates therapies and interventions that target the core signs of autism: impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and obsessive or repetitive routines and interests. Parents should exert caution before adopting any of these methods.

CONCLUSION: Autism is a brain developmental disorder that impairs social interaction and communication, and causes restricted and repetitious behavior, all starting before a child is 3 years old. It is 3 times more likely to affect males than females. The disorder can vary widely in its severity and symptoms and may go unrecognized, particularly in mildly affected children or when it is masked by more debilitating handicaps. Autism is not treated with surgery or drugs (although some may be given medicine to improve certain symptoms, like aggressive behavior or attention problems). It continues to be a challenging condition for individuals and their families, but the outlook today is far better than it was a generation ago.

INTRODUCTION: Candida Albicans is a naturally occurring yeast that is present in all of our bodies and it is supposed to be there in balance with many other micro-organisms. It is responsible for superficial infections such as oropharyngeal candidiasis (Thrush) and vulvovaginal candidiasis (Vaginal Candidiasis). Infections of the latter category are also referred to as candidemia and are usually confined to persons with severely compromised immune systems, such as cancer, transplant, and AIDS patients, whereas superficial infections of skin and mucosal membranes, causing local inflammation and discomfort, is common in many populations around the world.

An Infection is usually brought on by various components of our modern lifestyle such as the foods we eat, toxins in our environment, antibiotic use, etc. and once you have an overgrowth it can be quite difficult to bring it under control.

INFECTIONS: The introduction of the mass use of antibiotics has coincided with the increase in yeast infections. Initially almost all yeast infections were preceded by a prescription for antibiotics and during the 1950’s an infection usually followed a few weeks after treatment. By the 1970s both women and men began to have the condition even when their MD’s did not treat them with antibiotics.

The past decade has seen the growth of opportunistic infections due to various Candida species primarily because of the worldwide growth in the number of patients with compromised immune systems, who are very susceptible to opportunistic infections. These infections can be cured with antifungal medications, but they do represent a problem in AIDS patients.

OVERGROWTH: People have been on this Earth a long time but Candida Overgrowth is a recent problem. Antibiotic and steroid use are the most common reason for yeast overgrowth. Sugars assist and aid the overgrowth of yeast, possibly explaining the increased prevalence of yeast infections in patients with diabetes mellitus. Some Doctors will tell you there is nothing wrong with you because they have no training specific to fungal infections, so without specific training, most do not even believe in Candida yeast overgrowth.

Many alternative practitioners believe that overgrowth in the intestines is the cause for a yeast syndrome that results in symptoms such as fatigue, headache, mood swings, sinus congestion, depression, poor memory and concentration, and yearning for sweets.

SYMPTOMS: Symptoms usually include severe itching, burning, and soreness, irritation of the vagina and/or vulva, and a whitish or whitish-gray discharge, often with a curd-like appearance. Alternative medicine practitioners often use the term Candida to refer to a complex and broad spectrum of symptoms, most of which center around gastrointestinal distress, rashes, sore gums and other miscellaneous symptoms.

A lot of women mistake the symptoms of the more common Bacterial Vaginosis for a yeast infection. In men, signs include red patchy sores near the head of the penis or on the foreskin, severe itching and/or a burning feeling. However, having no signs at all is very common and usually, a more severe form of the symptoms emerges later.

Symptoms are vast and all encompassing and can even incapacitate the individual. They can vary from one person to another and often move back and forth between systems within the individual. One day you may experience symptoms in the musculoskeletal system and the next day it could be the digestive system etc. Most people with yeast overgrowth are also suffering from nutritional deficiencies and correcting your deficiencies can help you in your battle with candida symptoms.

TREATMENTS: Local treatments may include vaginal suppositories or medicated douches. Treating it with antibiotics can worsen the problem by eliminating the yeast’s natural competitors. If you must take an antibiotic for some reason, you should also take an acidophilus supplement during the course of the treatment. There are a variety of natural health products that are helpful in the treatment of Candida symptoms such as caprylic acid, garlic, peppermint, oregano oil, grapefruit seed extract, colloidal silver as well as a few prescription medicines you can get from your doctor. One very popular treatment product is called Threelac.

During any treatment approach a majority of people experience a temporary worsening of symptoms. Probiotics are a popular treatment for chronic candida, most likely because the condition is thought to occur (in some cases) because of the decrease in gastrointestinal flora after treatment with antibiotics.

CONCLUSION: Candida depends on a living host for survival and is usually present in most people, but uncontrolled multiplication resulting in disease symptoms normally is kept in check by other naturally occurring micro-organisms. It is now at nearly epidemic levels in our society and is responsible for many of the chronic illness we see so frequently and is also an instigating factor for alcoholism. Candida thrives in a sugary environment, so your diet should be low in carbohydrates and contain no yeast products or sugar in any form.

Thousands of people suffer from it with out even knowing it. Nearly 15% of those with weakened immune systems develop a systemic illness because of Candida. Since the fungus thrives in warm, moist and dark places, exposed areas with these conditions such as the mouth, skin folds, arm pits and vagina’s are more vulnerable. If you feel you have a candida infection, consult your Physician or dermatologist for an examination and advice.

Chemical peeling continues to grow in popularity throughout the world and the diversity of ingredients used for this purpose are becoming more and more every day. The goal, to make the skin smoother, even so in the structure and color, and less wrinkled.

Peels add new combinations of antioxidants to make them more tolerable. The new techniques of the antioxidant chemical peels are seen on different layers, both for the temporary solution and a deeper, permanent solution to skin woes.

Newer techniques also allow for peels of different strengths to be used at one time to permit a deeper peel on one part of the face or treatment site, and a more superficial peel at another, more delicate, site. For example, a deeper peel on the face may be combined with a lighter peel under the eyes, or a deeper peel over specific wrinkles or scars and a lighter peel for the face as a whole. This allows for an even peel on the entire treated site and a stronger effect where needed. This is what makes the treatments special and why it is so important to have an experienced physician providing the treatment.

Chemical Peels accelerate natural exfoliation of the outer layers of the epidermis cells by the use of various chemical acids used to help break the chemical bonds between the cells of the skin. In this way, the chemical also accelerate the production of new skin cells and heals the cells below are encouraged to heel itself. The result is a fresh, smoother, younger appearance.

In some states, medical practice without a diploma, are entitled to one of the chemical peel procedures. However, you should always go to a certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon if you’d like to avail the chemical peel treatment for your skin. . Peels have a high degree of certainty, but it is very important that they are covered by a certified doctor or directly monitored by one.

Anesthetic is generally not necessary for most chemical peel types, although for deeper peel treatment sometimes local anesthesia is given to reduce the stinging sensation. There are different skin types and based on those, the chemical combinations used in the peeling process differ. Various chemicals can be used, either together or in combination with laser peel treatments. These methods have been developed to cope with different sensitivity of the skin on different parts of the body. Some areas are more sensitive than others, so the chemical peel solution has to be prepared accordingly.

This is a very exciting time in terms of aesthetic products available for peels. We can get the best results with less recuperation time off from work and social activities than ever before.
